Arendse Explains Tyson Return

SuperSport United caretaker coach Andre Arendse explained the return of club captain Thulani Hlatshwayo to the starting lineup after three months.

Hlatshwayo returned to SuperSport starting lineup for the first time since November last year when they played a 0-0 draw against Chippa United. The 35-year-old was called into action by Arendse as the survival of the relegation fight continues.

Arendse, who has been working with Hlatshwayo for quite some time at United, believes that the former Orlando Pirates defender will play a huge role in their fight for survival and the way he makes things easy for the goalkeeping department by marshalling the defenders.

“The first thing I did was, I had to understand what it was gonna take to get us through this challenge and the answer I came up with was that I going to have to lean heavily on my experienced players and Tyson is one of those,” Arendse told the media.

“He’s a club’s man; he’s a football legend and he’s a good leader. I needed those in the team tonight.

“I had no hesitation in bringing him straight away. I get a lot of him from the training ground specifically, his movement, he offered the team fantastic areal ability with the set-pieces, and he was the marshalling the back-four. He made Goss’ job a lot easier. “
