CT City Coach Explains De Sa Appointment

Cape Town City caretaker coach Diogo Peral reveals that the inclusion of Roger De Sa in the technical team was down to his experience and the good relationship between them.

De Sa was last involved in South African football back in the 2021/22 season with Cape Town All Stars in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Since then, he has been assisting Carlos Queiroz in the Egyptian, Iran and Qatar national teams.

City find themselves in an unfamiliar position in the Betway Premiership, where they are closer to relegation than to the top four, where they usually finish. The new technical team has been tasked to save the team.

With so much experience at international level, City saw an opportunity to rope De Sa in as the assistant coach to caretaker coach Peral who spoke highly of the former Orlando Pirates coach after their first game in charge against SuperSport United.

“Roger’s got a lot of experience, he was in Cape Town, he was available,” Peral told the media.

“I’ve got a very good relationship with him so does the club, so to tap into that experience, it was no brainer.

“When he agreed to come and help us out, no brainer. He’s been great.”
