Orlando Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi says he didn’t expect to be named Man of the Match in his side’s 1-0 victory over Polokwane City over the weekend.
The win at the old Peter Mokaba stadium saw the second-placed Buccaneers reduce the gap at the top of the Betway Premiership log to 12 points with three matches in hand with the 19-year-old earning his third best player gong since his promotion to the first team last month and only in his fourth league match appearance.
The South African junior international reflected on the game saying the award encourages him to keep on improving.
“It makes me happy that I’m the man of the match even though I didn’t expect it,” Mbokazi told OP TV.
“It’s also encouraging to not give up but continue working and adding on what I’m doing currently. So, I’m grateful and the three points we got today it’s because of what the coach told us to do in training.

“The first half was tough because they defended well so he told us we’ll come up with a plan and the plan that he came up with saw us win three points. We are happy for these valuable three points that we needed.”
