Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has made a bold claim that Amakhosi will repeat last season’s disappointment by finishing outside the top eight once again.
Chiefs were held to a 1-1 draw by TS Galaxy in their Betway Premiership clash at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium over the weekend to stretch their winless streak in the league to four matches. They stayed in eighth place on the table with 30 points from 24 matches.
Khanye said Chiefs only played well in the first half and should have had more goals as also notes the competition from other teams around Chiefs with games in hand though he acknowledged that games in hand don’t translate to points in the bag but based on how the log looks currently, his former side won’t hold on.
“I have said this before, Top 8, No!” said Khanye on IDiski TV.
“Remember Chippa United have two games in hand and are behind them. I know that games in hand don’t mean you have the points already. And below that there’s a team that has games in hand and if those teams win the games in hand. Also Kaizer Chiefs need to win their games and not focus on other teams they have to do the job themselves.
“Coming to this game, Kaizer Chiefs played very well in the first half I need to be honest. Both teams played at high intensity I think it was a good game. Kaizer Chiefs came to the game in the first half and were exciting to watch in the half and could have been better with at least two or three more goals. They should have wrapped it up in the first half but there were players from Chiefs in the half that didn’t come to the party.
“Their attack wasn’t really balanced. Glody Lilepo and Pule Mmodi were off and [Wandile] Duba even though he scored he played in patches in the first half. I can only single out [Gaston] Sirino because every time he got the ball he looked threatening.”
