Royal AM President Shauwn Mkhize’s last-ditch attempt to fight for their Premier League Soccer (PSL) status has fallen on deaf ears.
The PSL was due to hold at Board of Governors meeting on Thursday to confirm the demise of the Royal AM status in the league, and officially expel the club, leading to a 15-team league to complete the 2024/25 season.
This due to the failed takeover attempts of the club that has been under curatorship of the South African Revenue Services (SARS) amidst their legal battle against Mkhize over unpaid taxes.
It was confirmed internally with the PSL executive committee that it’s too late in the season to salvage a new ownership takeover and complete the season, while several of the squad players have already joined new teams, while others were issued clearances by the league upon request.
However, the BOG meeting was halted today as Mkhize file court interdict, which has since been dismissed, but did however, delay the inevitable proceedings to confirm the demise of the KwaZulu Natal based club.
In the National Soccer League circular obtained by iDiski Times issued by the PSL legal counsel Michael Murphy, confirmed the four following points which was directed to All Chairpersons, Chief Executive Officers and member clubs of the PSL.
- This morning’s Board of Governors meeting was adjourned to await the ruling of the Gauteng High Court in respect of the urgent proceedings launched by Royal AM FC late last night seeking to interdict the meeting.
- Her ladyship, Judge Mnhqibisa-Thusi, dismissed the interdict application a short while ago and handed down a punitive costs order against Royal AM FC. The adjourned meeting can consequently proceed.
- It is too late in the day (today) to reconvene unfortunately. The adjourned Board of Governors meeting will need to be rescheduled.
