Mngqithi On Riveiro, And Reported Exit Of Club Icons

Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has congratulated former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro and declined to comment on the reported exit of two of their key players.

Riveiro’s final game in charge saw them ease past Arrows with a 3-0 scoreline on Tuesday evening at Orlando Stadium in a result that leaves Arrows firmly in a relegation battle.

While the Spaniard was celebrated for his achievements in a celebratory mood eSgodini, it’s contrasting fortunes for the KZN outfit at present.

“We must congratulations coach Jose for his stay at Pirates, I think he did exceptionally well, he got so many trophies for the club, I think it’s five – it was very good [for the club],” Mngqithi said briefly about the outgoing Buccaneers boss.

He was equally abrupt about the reported exits of long-serving stalwarts Thabani Zuke, who has reportedly signed a pre-contract with rivals AmaZulu – and Knox Mutizwa – who is said to have seen his contract terminated.

Mutizwa, if his stay at Arrows has been ended prematurely, departs as their all-time record goal scorer with 63 goals since joining Abafana Bes’thende from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits in 2017.

“As for the decisions of the team, we always prefer to keep our dirty linen in the house,” he said before the conclusion of the press conference on Tuesday evening at Orlando Stadium.

Arrows are currently 14th in the league, three points adrift from the relegation playoff spot occupied by Cape Town City – with three games remaining – albeit the fixture against SuperSport United, Gavin Hunt’s 1000th game in charge, abandoned without a result decided.
