Matlou On His Chiefs Future As Contract Nears End

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou has refused to be drawn into talks about his future as his current contract runs down end of June, saying he’s firmly focused on Saturday’s final league clash against Polokwane City.

Matlou has had an injury-ravaged career at Chiefs since being snapped up from Moroka Swallows in July 2022.

The club have an option to extend Matlou’s contract for a further year, but the 26-year-old has racked up just 40 appearances with three assists since joining the Naturena-based side back in 2022.

The Soweto-born man declined to talk about his future but rather on his concentration for the club’s upcoming Betway Premiership encounter.

“Yes, my contract is coming to an end, it’s coming to an end in June, but I’m gonna leave that to of course to God,” Matlou said.

“Because I’m one person who grew up in church, so I would give everything to God and of course, most definitely to the technical team, to everyone, the board and staff, to give me the opportunity if they do, but it’s football so I’m not gonna plan for the future now, but now my focus is to win the Saturday’s game to get into the top eight.

“As a player, I’m only focused on the game. The last game we gonna play it’s on Saturday.

“So, what’s gonna happen next it’s the club and my agent, so I’ll hear from my agent what he says.

“I’m one player that does not talk to the agent when the season is on, so I have to focus on the team that I’m playing for currently.

“Because, if I’m gonna start thinking about the contract and stuff, I’m gonna lose the concentration on the game.”
