Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso doesn’t think Pyramids will alter their playing style this evening and provided an injury update ahead of their second leg CAF Champions League final.
Pyramids have the away goal advantage after the 1-1 draw in Tshwane last week but Cardoso doesn’t feel they will play to contain Sundowns this evening in their home ground, 30 June Stadium.
This season, they have been one of the most attack-minded teams on the continent, with a clear balance formed under Croatian head coach Krunoslav Jurcic.
“I think the way Pyramids play is quite clear, understandable but not always controllable, there are teams that are more difficult to understand how they play but you can control them on the pitch,” he said.
“Pyramids is a team with a clear way of playing in attack and defence, but it’s not easy to play against them, we know how they can harm us, how we need to be – we need to focus a lot in our behaviours as I said before in the four moments of the game to avoid problems.
“But most of all, play in the way to find the right moment to score, even a goal for Pyramids won’t take us out the game, what can put us more in the game, is a goal from us – so we have to be balance and understanding when we attack we need to be organised at the back, even when defending, we need to think about attack.
“I think both approaches from coaches will be similar, we both have experience and understand that playing to not suffer, usually doesn’t give the best result.”
Cardoso then stated that there’s been no changes to the squad available to be selected from the first leg; “As we head into the moment of the players available for the first match, they look available for the second one.”
The two sides face off this evening in Cairo at 19h00.
