Agent On Castillo As Chiefs Exit Agreed

The agency of Edson Castillo has opened up on his future after the player and Kaizer Chiefs agreed to mutually part ways.

Castillo, 31, quickly emerged as a fan favourite at Chiefs shortly after his arrival, when he joined the club from Monagas SC where he scored 11 goals in 46 games prior to his transfer to South Africa.

His goal-scoring threat from midfield and consistent performances saw him feature in 32 of their 35 games in all competitions, but in an overall forgettable season for Amakhosi as the campaign in a record low of 10th place in the league.

And the 2024/25 season under Nasreddine Nabi he featured in the opening four games of the season, before suffering an injury against SuperSport United – which saw him miss 16 league games – and after his recovery, was said to have fallen out of favour within the technical team.

“We are very grateful to Kaizer Chiefs for the opportunity and the time Edson spent with the club. The experience in South Africa, both on and off the pitch, was very positive and helped him grow as a player and as a person,” a representative of Andrade Sports Group told iDiski Times.

“However, as you know, the current situation with the new coach made it difficult for us to continue being part of the project. Now, we believe it’s the right moment to look for a new challenge in Edson’s career.

“We are open to staying in the African market, as we truly believe the experience with Kaizer Chiefs and in South Africa was enriching and highly valuable.”

Despite signing a new two-year deal before the end of last season, the club and player have now reached a mutual agreement to part ways as the player seeks a new challenge, and the club look towards freeing a foreign quota spot to bulk up other areas of the squad.

Castillo will now look to revive his career elsewhere, as he looks to maintain his spot in the Venezuela national team, where he made his debut in 2021 during the Copa America.
