Kaizer Chiefs captain Inacio Miguel is very careful in creating expectations following their Nedbank Cup triumph last season as well as their opening two wins in the Betway Premiership.
Amakhosi have so far registered two wins with clean sheets in both matches after defeating 10-men Stellenbosch 2-0 in their opener before following that up with a hard-fought 1-0 over Polokwane City.

Miguel was asked if this is an indication of a good season to come for Chiefs and he said his focus is not on opponents.
“We’re not focused on the other teams you know we are focusing on ourselves and our job what we can do better,” said the centre-back.
“I think we have nothing to do with other team’s result. If we don’t focus on ourselves, we can do nothing different from the last season. So personally, I don’t care about the other teams’ result, I care about my team. I care about the way that we work and the way that we win that game. That’s the most important for us, focusing on ourselves.”
As far as Chiefs contesting for more trophies this season, Miguel said the club fan base deserve honesty and the truth is for them to not have expectations as that creates disappointment. He however added that fans can demand for the team to be better in each game and that could lead to better outcomes.
“I think the fans of Kaizer Chiefs more than anything they deserve the truth,” added the Angolan national.
“They deserve us to be honest. I’m very honest with myself. I have a lot of people that on the streets come and tell me, Miguel this season we’ll lift another trophy. Listen, I think the most important thing is that they have to understand that we have to go game by game. We can’t create expectations, because then from the expectation it will come the disappointment, I don’t want disappointments on the fans.
“So, what I can promise to the fans, is nothing but hard work, every game, every training. We will be there we’ll try to do our best to bring the trophies that they want. But don’t ask me for trophies ask me to win games, ask me to go game by game. If we win game by game, probably we will achieve our goals. It will be easy, but as I said, I don’t want to disappoint them.
“So, the only thing that I can promise to them is that the group is very connected. It’s very together on this mission that is to of course bring the glory days back at Kaizer Chiefs. But it’s impossible to do it if we don’t go game by game and to be honest with ourselves, that is a big challenge.
“It’s a very competitive league and nothing but hard work to achieve our goals.”
