IDiski TV analysts Junior Khanye and Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi have given contrasting predictions for today’s Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.
Both sides come into the match unbeaten in the league so far. The hosts, Pirates currently occupy second place on the log, with 22 points in eight matches, a point adrift current leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who have played a game more.
Amakhosi on the other hand are in fifth place on the table, with 14 points from the same number of games, however the last time they won a league match was the 3-2 victory against Siwelele FC at the beginning of September.
However both had successful outings in the first round of the Carling Knockout Cup last week, where they each won 3-0 against Milford FC and TS Galaxy, respectively.
Khanye predicted a 1-1 draw, saying the defending champions tend to lose concentration in the derby while his former side will probably get a goal through a set-piece.
“The score will be 1-1 because Pirates will try hard and they will play an open game,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“But I suspect Chiefs will distract them, they will try and delay and be physical and I suspect a lot of yellow cards on the side of Chiefs.
“They might play with five at the back, asking for one wing-back to come and defend and half going forward. I don’t think they will create so many chances but they will get a goal because Pirates sometimes have a lapse of concentration in the derby.
“We’ve seen in many derbies how Pirates concede on set-pieces and Chiefs might score there, not during open play.
“I believe Evidence [Makgopa] will score. Pirates will create many chances but it will be difficult for them to score because they like to go through central they will try and force to go wide and when they go wide it’s anybody’s ball.”
Meanwhile for Tso there is no possibility Chiefs will win the encounter.
“The big team will win and because I want everyone to enjoy the game the score is going to be 2-1,” added Tso.
“If both of them will come like they performed during the week in their games the score is going to be 2-1. But if Chiefs will defend the score is going to be four…
“But if Chiefs will come at Pirates the score is going to be 2-1 to Pirates.”
