Former Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag was sacked by Bayer 04 Leverkusen after just three games in charge.
Ten Hag took over from Xabi Alonso after the Spaniard joined Real Madrid following a superb spell at Leverkusen that saw the club win their first ever Bundesliga title.
The Dutchman won just one of his three games, a 4-0 win in the DFB Pokal over fourth division Grossaspach, while they lost their Bundesliga opener at home to TSG Hoffenheim before squandering a 3-1 lead over 10-men Werder Bremen to draw 3-3 on the weekend.
The lack of positive results and talks of tension inside the dressing room, have now lead to Leverkusen already pulling the plug on the Dutchman.
“Bayer 04 Leverkusen has parted ways with head coach Erik ten Hag with immediate effect,” the club stated on Monday.
“Training will be taken over by the assistant coaching staff for the time being.”
Simon Rolfes, managing director sport said: “This decision was not an easy one for us. Nobody wanted to take this step. However, the past few weeks have shown that building a new and successful team with this setup is not feasible. We firmly believe in the quality of our team and will now do everything we can to take the next steps in our development with a new setup.”
