Moses Mabhida Stadium will host the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers between Zimbabwe and Bafana Bafana.
The Zimbabwe Football Association had hosted their previous World Cup qualifiers in South Africa due to no stadiums in their home country meeting the CAF and FIFA criteria.
However, there had been outrage about Bafana’s advantage, with Zimbabwe and Lesotho hosting South Africa in South Africa.
As a consequence, Zimbabwe wanted to host Bafana in Botswana on 10 October, but according to Sportswire, SAFA complained over a scheduling conflict with Botswana’s match against Uganda on 9 October.
SAFA’s complaint was now granted by FIFA, with ZIFA confirming they will host Bafana at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Bafana currently top the log with 17 points, followed by Benin with 14. However, the situation around Teboho Mokoena’s inevitability for their 2-0 win over Lesotho is now being looked into by FIFA.
If the world football mother body find Bafana guilty, South Africa could get three points docked and drop to second place based on goal difference. It would mean, Bafana will need to win their final two games against Zimbabwe and Rwanda, and either outscore Benin, or hope The Squirrels will drop points.
