Late Bafana Call-Up Confirmed

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has called up Stellenbosch FC striker Ashley Cupido as a late injury replacement ahead of tonight’s game against Rwanda.

Bafana need a win in their final 2026 FIFA World Cup to keep their hopes of qualifying for the international showpiece alive.

However, they need help from Nigeria, who must either beat or draw with Benin, with Bafana needing a two-goal win in the latter scenario.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch announced that their striker Cupido has been called up late to the squad, most likely for Lyle Foster, who sat out large parts of Monday’s MD-1 training.

“Stellenbosch FC striker Ashley Cupido has received a late call-up to the South Africa squad ahead of Tuesday’s qualifier against Rwanda after being selected as an injury replacement by coach Hugo Broos,” the club stated.

Cupido has represented Bafana six times, including at the 2024 COSAFA Cup, and made his full senior debut under Broos in a 2-0 win over Mozambique, where he also scored his first national team goal.

Bafana host Rwanda at 18:00 at Mbombela Stadium tonight.
