Why Cardoso Was Forced To Change Shirts Twice

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso was trending for a bizarre reason after their clash against Orlando Pirates, with the Portuguese mentor forced to change his shirt twice.

During the top of the table clash against Pirates at Loftus Versfeld, the Sundowns coach started the game wearing the club’s navy blue golfer, but was instructed by officials to change his shirt, or risk being sent off.

In a rather bizarre confrontation with the fourth official, Thando Ndzandzeka, Cardoso was then forced to change his shirt, if not, he was informed he would be immediately sent off during the high-profile fixture.

Cardoso was then seen running down the tunnel – where the dressing room was not open at the time and then on field, exchanging shirts with his assistant coach Fábio Fernandes.

The reasoning coming from the officials, was due to the dark blue shirt said to have been confusing on the touchline with the kit of the Buccaneers – in an incident that has rarely occurred in the league before.

After the break, Cardoso changed his shirt again, which created a rather bizarre talking point on social media, with many fans left bewildered by the situation in which members of the Sundowns technical team suggested was provocation.

While the game was business as usual after the third proverbial outfit change, it proved to be one of the more stranger incidents in the Premier Soccer League this season.

Sundowns currently lead the table with 22 points after 11 games, two ahead of Sekhukhune United and three ahead of Pirates – who have played two games fewer.
