Miguel Hails Chiefs Recruitment

Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has praised the club for their recruitment for the 2025/26 season, stating the increased competition has raised the level of performances.

The Angola international was lured to Amakhosi at the start of last season from Girabola giants Petro de Luanda and became an ever-present figure in their defence and secured a leadership role in the team.

His partnership with Rushwin Dortley looked promising, but their defence remained inconsistent without finding the right balance, often rotating goalkeepers and full backs, while Zitha Kwinika and Given Msimango had the odd opportunities in the XI.

In the off-season, Chiefs roped in Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Nkanyiso Shinga – into the defence, while Brandon Petersen, now captain has been the firm first choice stopper – which has coincided with 10 clean sheets in 15 games across all competitions.

“This season, the team, the board, everyone who was involved in bringing in new players, were very smart – they could bring players with experience for this kind of competitions, knowing we’re going to play teams who went far [in CAF competitions] last season,” he said.

“It brings responsibility and respect for these teams, but we’re Kaizer Chiefs, we have our value, we’re a big team also and we will prove it. We have a large squad now and it’s important we have a lot of competition between us.”

In midfield and attack the club secured Siphesihle Ndlovu, Lebogang Maboe, Ethan Chislett, Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, Khanyisa Mayo, Etiosa Ighodaro and Flavio Silva.

“I think every position we have two or three players and that brings us confidence for all kinds of competitions, we can manage well the situation between PSL and CAF – so it was important for us to have a deep squad to manage all the responsibilities.

“The mood is good, but the mood is momentum, our main focus is to keep our feet on the ground and go game by game to try and bring the best out of us in every single game.”

Chiefs were drawn with Zamalek SC, Al Masry and ZESCO United in the CAF Confederation Cup group with the group stages to begin after the FIFA international break.
