Solomons Makes Bold Claim Over Chiefs CAF Return

Kaizer Chiefs wing-back Dillan Solomons says the CAF Confederation Cup is a tournament he wants to win and not just be a part of this season.

Amakhosi’s group stage campaign kicks off on Sunday against Egyptian Premier League side Al Masry – in what many consider a group of death as their domestic rivals Zamalek SC and Zambian giants ZESCO United are also part of the make of Group D.

Solomons, 28, played a major role in their qualification process, playing the full 90 in the home and away ties against AS Simba – in which they eased to a 3-1 victory over the DR Congo outfit.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to what the competition holds for us, obviously we wanna do well in this competition, so yeah, we’re excited and feeling blessed to be part of the journey,” Solomons said.

“It doesn’t really matter [if we start away of home] it’s just about us getting results away from home – so it could be better starting with a win away from home to have that momentum going forward, but for me, any fixture – home or away, doesn’t matter.”

“I think the preparations have went well, we know what type of group we’re in, two Egyptian [long] travels, so it will be really tough but we have planned well, we know what we want to do in those type of games, so looking forward to it,” he said.

“It’s been a crazy journey [at Chiefs] so I’m just excited to be part of this team playing in the Confed – we know what we want to achieve as a team and as an individual, this is the type of tournaments I want to play in – not just part of it, but to win it, so it’s exciting and I’m looking forward to it.”

Chiefs take on Al Masry at the Borg Al Arab Stadium in Alexandria at 18h00 on Sunday.
