Former Orlando Pirates and Al Ahly coach Jose Riveiro has revealed why he feels the PSL is ahead of the Egyptian Premier League.
The Spanish coach spent three seasons in the PSL, spearheading the Buccaneers and having a successful stint with them, during which he won five trophies.
After leaving at the end of the previous season, he joined Al Ahly, only to be sacked three months into the job due to an inconsistent start.
Having worked in both leagues, Riveiro has listed several factors that he feels make the PSL “much better” than the Egyptian League.
“In Egypt, there’s restrictions for the people to go to the games, they allow I think 15% or 20% of the crowd no more,” said Riveiro during the interview with Robert Marawa on MSW.
“That’s why when you have a look at Al Ahly games, there’s only space behind the goal with fans and everything else, it’s empty. It’s security because of the pre-war situations they’re having there; that’s the explanation I got.
“If I can be honest, I think PSL is ahead in terms of structures, in terms of the way the games are lived and experienced. It’s ahead in terms of football from my point of view as a football fan.
“There’s so much more attractive football with open games, less low blocks let’s put it that way. I think the level of the league and PSL as a product is much, much better.”
