Saleng Gives Injury Update After Downs Move

Mamelodi Sundowns winger Monnapule Saleng says his new club knew he was carrying an injury which likely rules him out for close to two months.

Saleng, 27, is one of three new players signed this January by the Brazilians, however he will not feature for the defending champions soon because he is still nursing a quad injury.

The former Orlando Pirates attacker spent the first round of the season on loan at Orbit College when he sustained the knock.

He explained on how long he had been carrying the injury, playing through pain and how his new side believe he can recover and get back to his best.

“I’m carrying a quad injury,” Saleng told Mamelodi Sundowns TV.

“I got it when we [Orbit] played against Magesi away and I continued playing with it. I could feel pain during the game but the game was flowing and you are just flowing with it and playing.

“The pain wasn’t bad enough to disturb the game because you need three points. After that game we played against [Kaizer] Chiefs, I played through that pain taking pills for the pain and I didn’t make much of it.

“But I took it seriously when we played against Stellenbosch ,that was a third game [playing with the pain]. I couldn’t ignore the pain much longer that’s when I decided to have it checked.

“They were treating me for the injury at Orbit but I hadn’t gone for scans as yet. In the second half of the game against Stellenbosch I felt the pain was unbearable and I was substituted. I knew I needed the injury had to be checked seriously.

“Sundowns signed me, knowing I was carrying the injury. They have belief that they can treat me back to full recovery and I can be able to help the team going forward.”
