Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe has opened up about his steady rise at the club in recent matches.
The 31-year-old joined the Soweto giants at the start of the current campaign after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns, a club where he enjoyed significant success.
Prior to his move to Chiefs, Maboe spent the second half of last season on loan at SuperSport United, where he worked to regain consistency and match fitness.
Maboe endured a bit of a difficult start to life at Naturena, missing several matches during the early stages of the season as he worked his way into the squad.
However, his fortunes have since changed, with the experienced midfielder establishing himself as a key figure in the team after earning regular game time.
So far, Maboe has featured in nine matches across all competitions, making four appearances in the CAF Confederation Cup and five in the Betway Premiership.
The midfielder has credited his teammates for the support and encouragement they have shown him, noting that their belief has played a significant role in his improved form and confidence as he continues to make an impact for the club.
“It all comes down to the hard work that we do in training and the goals that we have set for ourselves,” said Maboe.
“I must commend my teammates for the support they have given me, it’s not just myself but the team that’s doing well.”
Maboe believes that he is slowly regaining the form he showed at Maritzburg United and, at times, at Mamelodi Sundowns.
“I think I am [getting that groove back], if you ask any footballer where they find joy, they will tell you that, in the field of play,” he added.
“The more games you play, the better you become and the more you improve. I think just being on the pitch, you’re bound to improve.”
