Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has shared insight into what was added to the squad in their record breaking run this season.
Pirates are on a sensational 11 match winning run at home, a far-cry from the side who opened the league campaign with back-to-back defeats to Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants respectively.
Sections of supporters were already calling for Ouaddou’s head, having followed on from a transformational three-year period under Jose Riveiro who delivered five domestic cups and three consecutive second-placed finishes in the league.
“In terms of records [11 home wins], I think we need to give credit to our players,” Ouaddou said.
“I appreciate the competitiveness they have, they are warriors, they believe in themselves, they manage to create a solid group, unity.
“I can tell you Pirates is playing some interesting football, it’s not new but we added some pace and strength this season. We’ve [also] added some personality and character into the team, I think we’ve had time to build that.
“So, I want to give them [the squad] credit. It’s a big test for us, of course in this kind of game to test our strength, personality in this kind of [big] games.”
The match starts at 19:30 at FNB Stadium.
