Allan Freese holds no illusions about the challenge he is facing, but says he was happy to get started with an away point after their 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch on Wednesday.
Magesi are currently bottom of the Betway Premiership, with just 12 points after their 17 games played so far. The former Platinum Stars, Free State Stars and Highlands Park coach was appointed last week, replacing John Maduka.
Samuel Darpoh’s first-ever Premiership goal levelled matters after Langelihle Phili had given the home team the lead.
“Okay, I am happy with the point, especially with the time that I had to prepare the team, so it wasn’t easy,” Freese said.
“And when I say I’m happy with the point, there were things that we could have done better, but coming here and Stellenbosch being a good team with a good coach. So, ja, I’m very happy about that.”
Freese, who turns 70 in July, said he understands the challenge ahead, and says hard work is ahead of them.
“It’s two things here, okay, I’m coming in, three, four days to prepare the team,” Freese added.
“The team is dead last. Okay? I came into this thing with my eyes wide open.
“Okay, so how do I improve it? Hard work. And that’s the only thing that can help here at this present time. Get the players to understand how you want them to play. It’s part of all that.
“So, ja, first game, first point, yes, I’m happy.”
