Rulani Suffers Back-To-Back Defeats

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time since joining MC Alger.

Mokwena’s side got knocked out of the CAF Champions League last weekend after losing 2-0 to Masandawana, with the Premier Soccer League advancing to the quarter-finals.

On Friday, Alger returned to league football but suffered a last-minute defeat to Oran away from home.

The home side opened the scoring after 23 minutes via Boubacar Traore, but Alger equalized before the break thanks to Zinedine Ferhat.

However, when it looked like the game would end in a draw, an own goal by Ayoub Abdellaoui in the 94th minute saw the point slip away from Mokwena’s side.

Alger though remain comfortably at the top of Ligue 1 – just one point ahead of second-placed Constantine but with four games in hand.

Mokwena’s side have won 11 of their 16 Ligue 1 games, while drawing three and losing two.

Sead Ramovic’s CR Belouizdad were also in action on Friday evening, but only picked up a goalless draw with bottom-placed El Bayadh. Belouizdad are eighth with 25 points from 16 points – 11 behind the leaders.

Next week Thursday, Mokwena’s side will return to action and take on Josef Zinnbauer’s JS Kabylie, who are currently in 11th place.
