Mayo On Chiefs Form – I’m Competing With Six Players

Kaizer Chiefs forward Khanyisa Mayo says his time will come as he agrees he’s not shown the best of his abilities since joining the club on loan from CR Belouizdad.

Mayo, 27, scored on his debut for the club after securing a loan from the Algerian Ligue 1 giants but has yet to find the net again in the 11 games after, which has cast doubt whether he will return on a permanent move next season.

With the Soweto Derby on the horizon this weekend, it could be the perfect platform for the former Cape Town City star to send a reminder of his capabilities to Amakhosi – as they look to get back on track in the title race.

“Yeah definitely [you have not seen the best of me], for now, I’m competiing with six other players that are doing well at the moment, and scoring in the games that they get, so for me it’s to be happy for the person that’s playing right now,” Mayo said.

“When it’s my time to shine, he will need to be happy for me, now I’m happy for the person in front of goals in this particular for the club.”

In what’s likely to be his debut Soweto Derby, Mayo quashed the notion that they are now out of the title race after their mid-week defeat to Stellenbosch at FNB Stadium.

“For me it’s about gathering my thoughts, knowing what I need to do as an individual and for us to close the gap, we need to get maximum points to close the gap in the title contest,” Mayo said about the upcoming Soweto Derby.

“I don’t think we have lost [the league] the game of football is about win, lose, or draw and we coudn’t get maximum points in certain games that we had to, so it’s a minor setback, and we as players need to say we can catch-up with the top three teams in front of us,

“But the focus is now on the game on Saturday, and if we get those three points, it closes the gap to five points.”
