Kaze Explains Petersen, Obrigado & Shabalala Absences

Kaizer Chiefs co-head coach Cedric Kaze has explained the absences of Brandon Petersen, Mfundo Vilakazi and Mduduzi Shabalala in Saturday’s Soweto Derby.

Petersen’s absence was one of the big talking points ahead of the match, with Bruce brume making his first appearance of the season.

Kaze revealed that the Chiefs goalkeeper and captain had to be rushed to hospital and undergo surgery without revealing more details.

“Brandon has been sick the last two days, he got rushed into hospital and had a successful surgery yesterday,” he stated.

“It’s a very big loss the day before a derby like this to lose our captain, your goalkeeper. But I think Bruce had a good game, and I believe that he made some good saves.

“it was his first game of course but I think that he should’ve been helped more.”

Kaze also confirmed that Vilakazi missed the game due to injury, while Shabalala was not selected for reasons not disclosed.

“Mfundo was injured in the game against Stellenbosch and yesterday he got assessed and couldn’t feature in the game, unfortunately as well,” he added.

“About Shabalala, it was a technical decision.”
