Gallants Land Lafitte Replacement

Marumo Gallants look set to appoint Moroccan coach Jamil Benouahi until the end of the season to succeed Alexandre Lafitte.

The 28-year-old Lafitte was placed on suspension on Monday on what the club alleged was breach of contract, couple with their run of poor results, as they lost seven games consecutively across all competitions.

It was a story of the highly rated Frenchman, who won the league in Ivory Coast with Stade Abidjan and leading them to the CAF Champions League group stages – seeing his time unravel as quickly as it started after a positive start to the season that also led the Carling Knockout Cup final – losing to Orlando Pirates.

Benouahi formerly had stints with USM Alger and more recently with Rahimo in Burkina Faso and was assistant to Hubert Velud and Alexandre Santos during their time together at AS FAR.

Having started his career as a development coach in Belgium, he’s enjoyed Qatar, United Arab Emirates in various roles and stint as head coach with Jeddah FC in Saudi Arabia.

The 46-year-old UEFA Pro License holder was spotted alongside Gallants Chairman Abram Sello this evening at their game against Chippa United, sparking speculation that they deal has been concluded.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa currently find themselves in a precarious position in the Betway Premiership log standings.

They are languishing in 14th spot, five points above the relegation zone but are on the same number of points as 15th-placed Orbit College (18).

Their next assignment is home away from home league fixture against Golden Arrows on 14 March at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
