AGF Aarhus head coach Jakob Poulsen has questioned how Gift Links has been overlooked by Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos for the past five years.
Links, 27, has been in imperious form in the Danish Superliga with the club aiming to win their first league title since 1986, currently top of the table.
With nine team of the week awards, he’s among the leading candidates to win the Player of the Season in Denmark, earning rave reviews over the past couple of seasons, where he’s two games away from reaching the 200-game milestone for the club.
“Gift has been fantastic this whole season. He is a crazy one-on-one player and has such fast feet and incredible speed. From stand-still positions, he can get away from his opponent every time. At the same time he has really good work-rate, up and down the pitch, he’s a pleasure to have on my team,” Poulsen said to Viaplay.
“I can’t understand [why he is overlooked by Broos], I don’t know the South African national team that well. But with the level he has shown over a really long period, I would be very surprised if they have three players who are better than him in that position.”
Links, a natural winger, that has been featured as a wing-back for AGF over the past three seasons, has scored five goals with six assists in 27 games this campaign.
