Have Kaze & Youssef Lost Chiefs Dressing Room? Maboe Responds

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe has poured cold water on any suggestions that the co-coaches have lost the dressing room and that the players do not believe in the duo anymore.

Amakhosi coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef have come under fire in the last couple of weeks, as the side was eliminated from the Nedbank Cup and CAF Confederations Cup, and suffered three back-to-back league losses.

The side are currently in sixth position on the table with 30 points from 18 matches, 17 points adrift of the pack leaders who have played two extra games.

Talking to the media ahead of Chiefs’ league clash against Durban City, Maboe said the coaches are respected leaders of the group and everyone has the same goal to help the side win.

“There is no such thing. There is absolutely no such thing,” said Maboe.

“These are our coaches. These are our leaders and for us as players we share the same goal which is helping the team to get points and winning each game.

“It’s just unfortunate. And I’m going to reiterate what my colleague has said that it’s unfortunate that the past three weeks have damaged the work that we have been doing for the past three, four months, to be quite honest with you.

“But this is a situation that we are faced with right now and we are confident and working together that we are going to turn the corner.”

The former Sundowns midfielder also admitted that Chiefs are a big club that demands results but maintained he and teammates have been unlucky in the past encounters.

“This is a big institute, firstly,” added Maboe.

“We are in a very big institute where it’s also results driven. You know we have to win games and I think we’ve just been unfortunate to be quite honest with you that we haven’t been getting the results that we actually deserve.

“There are games where we created most chances, there are games where we didn’t convert the chances that we got.

“So I’d say we’re getting there like we’re getting that winning mentality within the group. I’m confident that we are going to ge there.”
