Polokwane City assistant coach Sheppard Sentane says the decision to have goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke be part of their penalty-shoot line-up wasn’t a random one.

City’s Carling Knockout Cup last 16 round clash with Siwelele FC went into extra time as neither side couldn’t find a goal in regulation time at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

10-men Siwelele further dragged Rise and Shine to a shootout where Jody February saved two kicks including Masuluke’s.

Sentane, who was in charge of the game in the absence of head coach Willy Moloto, added that he will not put the blame on the former Stellenbosch keeper for City’s exit from the cup because he was one of the assigned kickers and did well in training.

“It’s not just an overnight thing,” said Sentane.

“You see, we practiced those things. We have been practicing he’s been kicking good penalties, so we cannot change it now. He was one of the players that we assigned to go and do the business for us but unfortunately, he missed.

“We win as a team we lose as a team. I cannot fault him because there is no player that can go in there and aim to go and miss the penalty.

“If he could have scored, we could have been celebrating so you have to understand. What we have to do now is to go back to the drawing board and also try to motivate them to say they must keep their heads up and look for the next game.”
