Sekhukhune United coach Papi Zothwane has sung Ndongani O’Niel’s praises saying he hasn’t seen a defender like him in a long time.

O’Niel, 26, joined Babina Noko this season from Asante Kotoko and has so far featured in four matches across all competitions. In that period, Zothwane’s side has been unbeaten while they also progressed to the second round of the Carling Knockout Cup.

Zothwane said O’Niel has adjusted quickly to South Africa and their team culture and has shown leadership qualities. The coach also raved about O’Niell’s ability to play with both feet.

“Samba is a mature player, quality player, and a team player,” said Zothwane.

“ Again, it’s very, very difficult to adjust from another country and start games and adjust quickly, in knowing names, the teammates, the atmosphere in the team, the culture it’s very, very difficult.

“And I think he’s adjusted very well. He’s one quality player that I’ve never seen in the longest time, a defender that can play with both legs, can anticipate, can jump and in the set-pieces again can give you something.

“It’s very rare to find in the modern game. I think he has added a good defensive structure and good leadership in our team, and he’s a player that any team can want to have.”
