Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams has joked that he’s an elder now after his notable change in hairstyle and says confidently the CAF Champions League is a priority target this season.

Adams, 24, returned to action after losing his place in the starting line-up just prior to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and with his return, also came a surprising ‘chiskop’ hairstyle in the process.

It’s become a running joke amongst the squad and fanbase, that he should no longer change it after an impressive return to form, that has also seen him named in the preliminary squad for Bafana Bafana for the upcoming friendlies against Panama.

“I’m a grootman now,” Adams responded bursting into laughter when asked about his new change in hairstyle before addressing the congested fixture schedule.

“At Sundowns you know you play every three days you know, fortunately, I’m suspended [for the Gallants game] so I can rest, so yeah – the job goes on and focus goes on.”

Adams who produced another impress display in midfield went on to state it’s premature to suggest the tie against Stade Malien is over despite the 3-0 advantage from the first leg at Loftus Versfeld and in their current run of form, the desire to win the competition is becoming stronger.

“I’m not going to say that and underestimate them because we must still go there, and at home they’re a very good team, they will press us, so we will speak after the second leg,” he said.

“They were not that difficult [to face] but you know the quality we have in this team is unstoppable. The Champions League is what we want as team, last year we failed in the final, and this year, we started a bit – sloppy, but as we get into it, the performances are improving and we’re winning games.”
