Durban City midfielder Thabo Nodada has shared some motivation ahead of the Nedbank Cup semi-final clash against Casric Stars.
12 months ago, Durban City were playing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship fighting for promotion. While midfielder Nodada was at Cape Town City in the Betway Premiership fighting for survival.
When Nodada joined Durban City at the beginning of the season, none of this was seen possible but Ethekwini outfit is on the verge of ending trophy drought in KwaZulu-Natal.
The last time a KNZ team won a trophy was when Lamontville Golden Arrows won the MTN8, hammering Ajax Cape Town 8-0.
Nodada on the other hand won the South African League Cup and MTN8 with Cape Town City and hasn’t won the Nedbank Cup.
“I haven’t won this trophy in my career; I’ve won others, but I haven’t won this one. Also, I think a much bigger factor for me is that I’ve never won a trophy with a KZN club either,” Nodada told the media.
“The last time a KZN club won a trophy was when Golden Arrows beat Ajax 8-0 in the MTN8 in 2009. You know there’s a lot at stake here; there’s a chance to put ourselves in very serious history books, and that’s a big motivation.
“Getting to the final is a dream, and if you look back at the past 12 months, you wouldn’t expect this. I want to enjoy football and be in a good environment. This is like the cherry on top, and no matter what happens, I will have comfort in light.”
