Kaizer Chiefs made it four consecutive league wins after a 2-0 victory over out-of-sorts TS Galaxy in their Betway Premiership encounter at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The opening half, Chiefs showed their superiority on the ball, coming into the game with the confidence after wins over Durban City, Magesi and ORBIT College to lift them into third place with three games in hand.
Meanwhile the Rockets arrived without a win in eight games in the league despite an incredible feat of reaching the Nedbank Cup final.
It was Flavio Silva who bagged the goal in the opening half, heading home to the far corner of Ira Tape’s net, after a pin-point delivery from Mduduzi Shabalala.
Chiefs were fluid, creating chances, with Lebohang Maboe leading the orchestra but the only notable action was perhaps negative going into the break – where Seluleko Mahlambi was fortunate to escape a read card for a horror lunge on Aden McCarthy.
The second half was delayed just after the hour mark due to floodlight issues as dark cloud suddenly appeared over the Calabash and the storm that followed, saw the players temporarily leave the pitch.
However, after more than 40 minutes delay – the game continued; with Ethan Chislett and Asanele Velebayi, who replaced Mduduzi Shabalala and Wandile Duba, looking to add further goals.
But it was Glody Lilepo who bagged the second, being played through by Sibongiseni Mthethwa, before rounding Ira Tape, who was found way up the pitch in no-mans-land to slot into an empty net.
Meanwhile Chiefs climbed to 42 points after 22 games – three ahead of fourth placed AmaZulu – with two games in hand over Usuthu.
