Hlungwani On Why Pirates Were Denied Late Goal In Stalemate

Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani has applauded Christopher Kistoor for his bravery in correctly disallowing Orlando Pirates a goal in their 2-2 stalemate against Richards Bay last Friday.

With the Buccaneers trailing 2-1 in the 89th minute, Andre De Jong thought he had levelled matters after challenging Richards Bay goalkeeper Ian Otieno to tumble the ball over the line.

Despite Kistoor first pointing to the centre line, meaning awarding the goal, he then overuled himself after De Jong was adjudged to have fouled the goalkeeper.

Hlungwani has now dissected the incident, arguing that the New Zealand international had indeed fouled the Harambee Stars shotstopper when he connected with the ball.

“De Jong challenged the keeper, even scored the keeper and the ball at the same time,” Hlungwani said on Soccerzone.

“Now, the referee disallowed the goal. There’s an offence committed.

“He [De Jong] scored everything there. He wants everything to cross the line.

“Correct decision by the referee Christopher Kistoor to disallow the goal.”
