Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe has questioned how Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe was voted Man of the Match in the sides’ goalless league draw at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
The sides had to settle for point ach after missing chances with Chiefs maintaining third spot on the standings with 46 points and City seventh with 34 points both from 24 matches.
Mohafe felt his side created more chances and had better opportunities in the game, saying they should all pat themselves for how well they contained Amakhosi.
But the coach felt Maboe didn’t deserve the award as he was kept quite during the 90 minutes and City capitalised on his mistakes.
“And in the middle, we neutralized, we neutralized Maboe, we neutralized [Thabo] Cele,” said Mohafe.
“And I’m so confused on how did Maboe get the Man of the Match? I don’t know how he got it, because he was nowhere to be seen on the field.
“Whenever he got the ball, we were there, we won most of the balls from him. So how can you be a Man of the Match losing the balls?”
Mohafe wasn’t shy to name his players as his choices for the accolade on the night.
“Let’s go back to who was marking Maboe,” he added.
“And then we go again we say we had Tlou [Nkwe] on the left side he deserves the Man of the Match. You have [Mokibelo] Ramabu on the right side he gave them problems. He deserves to be the Man of the Match.”
“So why not give them the Man of the Match?”
