What I Didn’t Like Despite Win Vs Sekhukhune – Hunt

Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has expressed an area of concern despite their big win over Sekhukhune United this past weekend.

Hunt’s charges kept their top eight ambitions intact after thumping Babina Noko 3-1 at Athlone Stadium on Friday evening to move into ninth spot, three points adrift of Golden Arrows in eighth place with a game to spare.

The home side were first to draw blood in the 24th minute as Nigerian international Kazie Godswill Enyinnaya found his way past the Sekhukhune defence before firing past Renaldo Leaner into the top right corner.

Tshegofatso Mabasa was then denied his fourth goal in Stellies colours after latching onto a pass from Thapelo Mokobodi, but was rightfully flagged offside.

Stellies got their second of the evening shortly after as Chumani Butsaka benefitted from Leaner’s mistake to restore the home side’s two-goal cushion.

The visitors got a consolation from Bright Ndlovu in the 66th minute, but Stellies put the result beyond doubt two minutes later as Genino Palace netted his side’s third for the much-needed maximum points.

Even though they walked away with a positive result in the end, Hunt expressed his dissatisfaction on how too open they were which would have swayed results Sekhukhune’s way.

“It was a hell of a game,” Hunt said after the match, according to the club’s website.

“It was end-to-end stuff, but it was a bit too open for me. There was no control from either team, and they [Sekhukhune] could have had one or two goals themselves in the first half.

“We started the second half well. We had three or four big chances which we didn’t take, and then they scored, and then we scored… But, all in all, we did well for the victory.

“I thought the game was a little bit too open and transitional, which I don’t like because it’s a bit too edgy, but where we are now compared to where we were in January is the most important thing.”

Hunt and his charges have a huge task awaiting against Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday, 22 April, at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
