Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has addressed recent links to the Ghana and Libya national team jobs and given update on his future.
Prior to appointing Carlos Queiroz, Ghana had looked at Mosimane; however, he has revealed that the interest was not concrete. He confirmed an initial inquiry from the Ghana FA and explained that talks were short-lived.
He further expressed a bit of lack of interest in a short-term contract tied only to a World Cup campaign, emphasising that he is looking for a more permanent project rather than a brief stint as a tournament specialist.
“I guess, there was a little bit of talk, when I asked the office, they said there was a talk,” Mosimane told Robert Marawa on MSW.
“Sometimes are like, maybe we just want to have three names and we find out who we want out of the three. If you want Carlos Queroz, you’re going to pay top dollar.
“But there was never concrete talks. Concrete is when the letter comes to say we would like to have you and can we have a conversation over this.
“A call from a Ghana official, for me is not a really serious talk. And also do I really want to go to [the World Cup] for two months – three games? Maybe I don’t want that. Maybe Carlos said why not? Let me go have fun.”
‘Someone Is Talking Libya But…’
Mosimane disclosed that he has attracted interest from various North African teams. He further mentioned discussions with the Libya national team, though he is uncertain about his interests.
“There’s always talks, there was talks in Algeria, there’s talks in Egypt, there’s talks in Tunisia,” he added.
“There are some talking to us about Libya national team. But do I really want to go there? I don’t know.
“Sometimes if you look at what happened to Rulani [Mokwena] and the ex-coach of Galaxy [Sead Ramovic], reading those stories…
“I’m 61, sometimes I don’t need adventure, sometimes I just want proper things and right stuff.
“There’s also talks in UAE, trust me there’s always talks.”
