Sekhukhune United head coach Cedric Kaze says he didn’t mind the translator tag when he was at Kaizer Chiefs though it wasn’t stipulated in his contract and the club also asked him to not do it.
Kaze was one of Nasreddine Nabi’s assistant coaches when the Tunisian arrived at Naturena at the start of the 2024/25 season. Under Nabi’s guidance Chiefs broke their 10-year trophy drought by clinching the Nedbank Cup which was also a pathway to the CAF Confederation Cup for the 2025/26 campaign.
The former Young Africans head coach, however didn’t finish a second term at Chiefs leaving early with the club promoting Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef to the hot seat as co-coaches.
The Burundi national helped Nabi with the press conference and pre-/post-match interview translating French to English and vice versa, something he often got ridiculed for on social media.
He explained to Andile Ncube on Sports Night Amplified on Metro FM on Tuesday how the ridicule didn’t bother him because he knew the facts and it doesn’t take away from his job as a tactician.
“I have heard about it [the translator tag],” said Kaze.
“It’s funny sometimes because you know in these modern times of social media people they tend to talk about everything and nothing.
“As well you know that time even the club had asked me to even not do the translation but I said I don’t mind because it was not part of my contract and my requirements. But I said that I don’t mind doing it.
“As far as my message can get across very quickly and can help the team to do better I don’t mind because as well the outside words they don’t hurt me because I know where I’m going, I know where I’m coming from and I know as well what I’m capable of.
“And I hope that time will prove it.”
