Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka reckons that his former side will play a key part in which way this season’s Betway Premiership title heads to.
The Glamour Boys take on Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby on Sunday, 26 April, as they look to avenge their heavy defeat from the first round.
Amakhosi suffered a 3-0 humiliation to their fiercest nemesis who have been on song as they sit top of the log standings looking to capture their first league title since the 2011/2012 campaign.
The Naturena outfit have also turned their fortunes around after losing four consecutive matches and have now picked up five wins with a draw in their last six matches.
Ahead of this weekend’s spectacle at FNB Stadium, ‘Mido’ is of the notion that Chiefs pretty much have a say who will win the title at the end of the season as they still have to play both Pirates and Sundowns.
“Right now, Chiefs is holding, deciding, can decide [where the league ends up],” he said on The Pitchside Podcast.
“They still need to play Sundowns as well, so depending on how that game goes, but I think Sundowns have the upper hand.
“But Chiefs always comes up when they’re playing against Sundowns.”
On Soweto Derby Pressure
“The country comes to a standstill, we all know,” he added.
“There’s rivalry inside the household, so it’s everywhere.
“But, there’s pressure. Everything gets thrown out. There’s no form or anything like that.
“On derby day, it’s what happens. Who comes out, who wants it more.
“I think this Sunday is what’s gonna happen. Who wants it more will take it.”
