Orlando Pirates reserve side head coach Roscoe Krieling has dedicated the DStv Diski Challenge league title to his late father.
Krieling who joined Pirates at the beginning of the season after leaving SuperSport United won his second DDC title, which was the first for Buccaneers in 11 years of the league’s existence.
The Sea Robbers beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 in a packed Dobsonville Stadium to be crowned champions, completing the double after also beating Sundowns 5-1 in the first round.
After the memorable day at Dobsonville Stadium, Krieling was emotional during his post-match comments with SuperSport TV as he mentioned that he lost his father on this day.
“Five years ago, my father passed away on this day. Credit to the boys they fought, I don’t believe they should’ve been here,” Krieling told SuperSport TV.
“Sundowns brought their big boys down. These boys deserve it from day one, they’ve been fighting, they’ve been in the league, they fought all their way through.
“Today they showed character, we could suffer without the ball. Today they proved themselves.”
Krieling also sent a message to the club’s first team who could secure their first league title since 2011/12.
“Every trophy at Orlando Pirates has won from the DDC all the way to the PSL, we would like to finish it off with the first team now,” he added.
