Kaze – I Understand His Emotions

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedrick Kaze believes experienced forward Glody Lilepo should have done better to avoid the red card he received.

Chiefs played AmaZulu knowing they had secured their spot in the CAF Confederation Cup after beating Sekhukhune United 2-0 the previous weekend. But their target must have been three points so that they could finish the season on a high note and possibly equal the 2019/20 season’s 57 points.

DR Congo winger Lilepo, who has had a lukewarm season for Amakhosi with a goal contribution of nine, consisting of five goals and four assists, was expected to make an impact in this game.

The 28-year-old received a yellow card in the 52nd minute for simulation; 16 minutes later, he scored the all-important goal. In celebration, he allowed his emotions to take over and took off his shirt, and referee Kristopher Kistoor showed him a red card. Chiefs finished the game with 10 men but managed to hold on for the win.

Kaze believes a player like Lilepo, who has played CAF Champions League for teams like AS Vita and Al Hilal Omdurman and played in France’s Ligue 2, should have done better in that situation. Now, he will miss the opening match of the 2026/27 season.

“It’s an unfortunate situation what happened to Lilepo, he is a player with big experience, He should know better because he had already been booked in the first half,” Kaze told the media.

“It’s football, I understand his emotions when he scored because a human being without emotions is not a human being.

“We got the three points everything is good we just need to concentrate on the last game against Chippa United.”
