Mngqithi & Barker Begin Title Battle As Mbule Makes MOTM Debut

South African coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Steve Barker got their Tanzanian league title campaigns off to winning starts, while Sipho Mbule made an immediate impact in Iraq by earning the Man of the Match award on his debut.

Fresh from winning the Tanzanian Community Shield, Mngqithi guided defending champions Young Africans to a 3-1 victory over Namungo. Barker also started with a win, overseeing a 2-0 triumph over Kagera Sugar as Simba look to claim their first league title since the 2020/21 season.

In Iraq, Mbule was named Man of the Match on debut as Zakho SC secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Ghaz Al-Shamal SC.

In Belgium, Relebohile Mofokeng played 22 minutes for Royale Union SG in their goalless draw with Waregem, while Shandre Campbell completed the full 90 minutes for Kortrijk in their 3-0 defeat to Antwerp.

In Scotland, Olwethu Makhanya completed his third consecutive full match for Rangers as he continues to establish himself as a regular as they blew away St Mirren 5-1 to progress to the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals.

In Germany, Ime Okon played 28 minutes for Hannover 96, who suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga 2.

In Denmark, Gift Links played the full 90 minutes for Aarhus in their 2-1 defeat to Viborg in the fourth match of the league season.

In Austria, Yusuf Maart completed the full match for Ried as they were beaten 4-1 by LASK, while fellow South African Jaedin Rhodes was not included in the squad.

In Portugal, Sphephelo Sithole played 14 minutes for Tondela in their 1-0 defeat to Leixoes.

In the United States, Puso Dithejane played 30 minutes for Chicago Fire in their 2-1 victory over Portland Timbers. Meanwhile, Bongokuhle Hlongwane played 45 minutes for Minnesota United in their 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake.

Last but not least, former Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy made his starting XI debut for Sabah FK, as his side kicked off the Azerbaijan Premier League with a 2-0 win over Kapez.
