Stellenbosch FC veteran goalkeeper Lee Langeveldt has retired from football after 21 years.
Langeveldt has tons of experience and has probably seen it all in football. The veteran goalkeeper started his career in 2005 at FC Fortune, where he made a name for himself before joining KB Denmark. That same year, he moved to Santos FC, one of the Western Cape’s prides.
At Santos, he spent seven years before joining Milano United in the Motsepe Foundation Championship for two seasons. For the second time in his career, Lee played outside the Western Cape when he went to play for Lamontville Golden Arrows between 2016 and 2017.
It was more about giving back to the community when he came back to the Western Cape to join Stellies, not knowing it was the time to reap what he had sown all these years.
It started with helping the Winelands outfit gain promotion to the Premier division by lifting the MFC league title. In the 2023/24 season, he played a role in Stellies lifting the Carling Knockout Cup, and a season later, they reached the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals but lost to Simba SC.
In the last match at Danie Craven Stadium this season, where Stellies won 2-0 beating ORBIT College, the 39-year-old was introduced in the 90th minute as a send-off goodbye and was honoured by Stellenbosch FC.

He made 83 appearances for the Maroons during his decade long stay.
