After Mamelodi Sundowns secured their second CAF Champions League title, Miguel Cardoso’s men banked nearly R100 million in prize money.

Masandawana overcame a hostile crowd and going 1-0 behind after a penalty by Mohamed Hrimat after securing a crucial away goal.

Teboho Mokoena literally silenced the crowd at the sold-out Stade Prince Moulay Abdallad, which meant the home side now needed to score two goals.

However, Sundowns held firm and secured their second African crown after 2016, while head coach Cardoso became third time lucky after losing his previous two finals – last year with Sundowns and in 2024 with ES Tunis.

The victory also secured Sundowns a spot at the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, which is rumored to take place in Morocco.

In addition, Sundowns’ management will be smiling all the way to the bank, as the Premier Soccer League giants secured $6 million in prize money from CAF.

Prize money overview:

  • Winners: $6 million (R98 million)
  • Runner up: $2 million (R33 million)
  • Semi-finalists: $1.2 million (R20 million)
  • Quarter-finalists: $900 000 (R15 million)
