Cape Town City suffered their second consecutive defeat in the promotion playoffs mini-league at the hands of Magesi FC.
City came to the game under a massive pressure after losing their opening match against Milford at home on Tuesday.
The Citizens dominated the opening minutes, and had a good opportunity after 11 minutes when Jayden Rhodes beat his man and got a shot away on his weaker foot. The ball spilled in the area, but Dzenan Zajmović’s follow-up couldn’t cross the line.
There was a big talking point when Edmore Chirambadare fouled Dhakier Lee with a dangerous tackle, but the referee only showed a yellow card.
After the 33 minutes, Magesi took the lead against the run of play from the penalty spot, as Mncedi Vandala Mickey van der Hart after another contentious call from the referee.
In the second half City came with intensions to find an equaliser but Magesi’s firm defense kept their cleansheet and managed to walk away with three massive points, which took them level on points with Milford FC but ahead on goal difference.
Their second match is midweek against Milford FC away from home, while City are only back in action on 6 June.
