Sekhukhune United have set their sights on former Stellenbosch FC defender Athenkosi Mcaba ahead of the 2026/27 season.

iDiski Times has established that Babina Noko are looking to snap up Mcaba after his exit from Stellies with the club confirming his exit, ending his five-year stay at the outfit.

The 24-year-old defender made 72 appearances for the Maroons and won the Carling Knockout Cup, also playing a role in Stellies’ CAF Confederation Cup semi-final reach in the 2024/25 season. The former Bidvest Wits youth player made seven appearances in that CAFCC journey.

Mcaba had a difficult 2025/26 season, where he played just over 1000 minutes and scored one goal. Due to lack of game time and the arrival of a new head coach, Stellenbosch decided not to renew his contract.

Babina Noko is in pole position to sign the defender, having moved a step ahead by contacting Mcaba’s camp. It remains to be seen if the 24-year-old will sign the contract.
