South African defender Aden McCarthy has completed his transfer from Kaizer Chiefs to FK Sabah ahead of the 2026/27 season.

McCarthy, 22, ends a memorable breakout season with a lucrative move to Europe, believed to be in the region of R7-million excluding potential add-ons and with a future percentage resale clause.

Having profited from the long-term injury of Rushwin Dortley, the academu graduate established himself as one of the most consistent performers at Amakhosi and now moves to the Azerbaijani Premier League Champions.

Their maiden title success has seen them qualify for the 1st round of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, where McCarthy will be aiming to be involved in as one of their major investments of the off-season.

He follows on from the likes of Siyabonga Ngezana and Yusuf Maart as the more recent exports of the club to make moves abroad, as they joined FCSB and SV Reid respectively over the past couple of season.
