Former Vitesse Arnhem striker Simon van Duivenbooden says he’d like to return to South Africa and play in the Premier Soccer League next season.

Having emerged from the academy structures of the esteemed Dutch club, van Duivenbooden was a prolific scorer at youth level which earned him a move to PSV Eindhoven before returning to his boyhood club.

Having broken into the first team in 2024, he earned a preliminary call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad under Hugo Broos but things didn’t go to plan for the player since.

After their relegation amidst financial struggles, the 24-year-old had a brief stint with Cape Town City in a bid to help the club return to the top-flight.

But he returned to Europe in January with VPS in Finland where he scored two goals with one assists in seven games but is again available after parting ways with the club.

“I’m confident to come back to South Africa, to play for a PSL club, I’m a free agent at the moment so I’m ready to explore my options this transfer window,” he tells iDiski Times.

“I’m hungry and ready to put in the work and show my football abilities [after leaving so soon].”

Van Duivenbooden was linked with a move to Sekhukhune United before his move to Finland, however, it remains to be seen whether the interest still lingers for Babina Noko.
