Bafana Bafana star Relebohile Mofokeng has made a bold statement about his abilities after making his FIFA World Cup debut.
Mofokeng played his first match at the global showpiece, featuring in South Africa’s 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic on Thursday.
He came on in the second half and made an immediate impact as Bafana Bafana equalised through Teboho Mokoena’s penalty after trailing 1-0 for most of the game.
Mofokeng expressed his delight at playing in his first World Cup match, describing it as a “special” moment in his career.
“Obviously, it was very special, but I think everyone did his best,” said Mofokeng, as per Sporty TV.
“I think the most important thing is to compete, and we came here to do that. I think I’m one of the people who can compete.”
When asked whether he felt comfortable competing against Europe-based players, he insisted that the PSL is one of the best leagues in the world.
Having shown that he can compete on the World Cup stage, Mofokeng believes he has what it takes to play anywhere in the world.
“I also believe I play in one of the best leagues in the world,” he added.
“I think I can compete anywhere. So, I think if you can compete here, you can compete anywhere in the world and in any league.
“So, I think we’re doing fine, we’re doing okay. We came here to compete and we’re doing very well.”
