Durban City FC have completed the signing of highly-rated defender Fezile Gcaba permanently, iDiski Times has learnt.

The 27-year-old joined the club from Richards Bay at the beginning of the previous campaign on a season-long loan deal.

Gcaba, who came through Pirates reserves, enjoyed an impressive run under all three coaches who led the team last season – Gavin Hunt, Sinethemba Badela, and interim coach Pitso Dladla.

He made 27 appearances across all competitions – 22 in the Betway Premiership, four in the Nedbank Cup, and one in the Carling Knockout Cup.

He also played a pivotal role in the club’s Nedbank Cup triumph, which culminated in a victory over TS Galaxy in the final in May.

His standout performances did not go unnoticed as in November, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos named him in the preliminary squad for the AFCON tournament that took place in Morocco earlier this year.
